We'll probably see some clown trying it who isn't genuinely two-footed. Great technique - and nerve! - by the Spanish lad.

Looks like the keeper protested to the referee after the kick - not sure why though, no rule broken.

Thierry Henry done that a few years ago, not in a penalty, just messing around in the warm up at Arsenal. That is brilliant, not a patch on Jimmy Mac though!

"im not sure but i think it might break the fainting rule brought in just before the world cup."

Or feinting even ?

From the SFA website interpretation :

"Feinting to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted as
part of football. However, if, in the opinion of the referee, the feinting
is considered an act of unsporting behaviour, the player must be
cautioned."

That's about as clear as mud !!!

You can feint - except when it's unsporting behaviour !!!

ye pretty much but any feinting could be considered unsporting, will take quite a while before when even get an idea where the line is. Until that happens it certainly seems worth protesting when any feinting occurs. doubt the referees know where the line is either.

I'm sure I saw a clarification which said that interrupting your runup was what was being outlawed - you can feint to shoot and change your body position etc, but you can't stop halfway though your run in the hope that the goalie dives early.

Nice pen, although my favourite is Cruyff's for Ajax (?).

Although this was orignally done by Coppens and teammate André Piters scoring for Belgium in a 1957 World Cup qualifying win over Iceland.

Here is the link - can't do the clicky bit!

http://www.theoffside.com/leagues/dutch-eredivisie/origins-of-the-infamous-1982-cruyff-penalty.html

Prediction: Games 1-10 In the hunt. Games 10 -20 Strikers hit a dry spell and we start to lose/draw games. Games 20-30 Small squad reduces further due to injury and suspension. Battle for mediocrity begins on New Years day. We finish 4th (53 points)

think its the opposite to that wotsit

http://www.popularmechanics.com/outdoors/sports/physics/world-cup-penalty-kick-physics

"Feinting in the run-up to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted, however, feinting to kick the ball once the player has completed his run-up is now considered an infringement of Law 14 and an act of unsporting behavior for which the player must be cautioned"

clearly the kick in the video within the article is now outlawed but when does run up end and the shot begin?

the article also suggests that the rule is going to be changed again soon. possibly a rushed half way house for the world cup?

"Feinting to kick the ball" actually means pretending you're going to kick it then not kicking it but waiting for the keeper to commit himself then kicking it.

The player in the video didn't break his run or not kick the ball at the end of his run. The penalty was therefore perfectly legal according to the rules. Just because he kicked it with his left foot instead of his right he hasn't feinted - there's no rule that says you must kick it with your right foot.

I don't think an infringement has taken place but with that rule coming in(it shouldn't have btw) then I would protest that penalty as well, as its definitely a grey area that has been created.

The guy never stopped or checked his run, did not even try to "sell the keeper a dummy" and showed a great bit of skill.

If you outlaw something like this, you'd be as well preventing the penalty taker trying to send the keeper the wrong way.

Nothing at all wrong with it.
