Seen on COWS Mcgregor talking about comeption at centre half. So with for centre backs who are quite similar ability wise who would you go with?

For me i've always been a fan of Mcgregor who even although that that great with the ball will always get stuck in. From what i saw of him at ross county, an on form Keddie could be an asset

Dowie and Keddie for me at the moment looks the best partnership.

I think the front 2 are Keddie and Dowie at the moment, although McGregor really played well against Hearts....some cracking hard as nails tackles.

He may be in with a shout at Right Back too, with less cover there, but I think it will be Ozzy, Keddie, Dowie, Woods on Saturday.

Keddie seems to me the kind of player who blasts the ball upfield first and asks questions later, a typical no-nonsense defender.

To compliment him we really need a Boyd esk defender, somebody who can go forward with the ball at his feet. Higgins allways seemed the best at this imho.

It may be better not to play Keddie on Saturday since he misses both the Falkirk and Morton games, just to try and get a decent partnership going in his absence before we play them.

Its a good situation to be in. Keddies just been signed but banned for the first 2 games mean the other 2/3 know thay really need to be playin well to keep their jersey.

From what I've seen, missed the hearst game, Dowie and Keddie are looking a decent partnership.

Mcgregor is a hollywood defending and at the last ditch stuff, he is best at the club, both Keddie and Dowie seem better at stopping it get that far though by reading the game well. the Worry of playing them both in the middle though is how slow a pairing it is.

McGregor is the best tackler in the team by a mile. He does dive in too quickly sometimes, but some of the last ditch challenges he makes are unbelievable, just like the one against Hearts at 3-1.

Dowie seems quite mobile and good with the ball at his feet and Keddie looks like he could be a good player for us. Don't forget Higgins too.

I think Higgins looks better at left back personally. McGregor is a good defender but is also a nut job and goes flying in when he just doesnt need to, but I guess thats why he was brought to the club and his crunching tackles are great to watch. Dowie just does the simple things, wins the headers and is probably the most composed of our center backs. Keddie looks a decent player to me, strong in the tackle and the air, I think he is also left footed so that bring a natural balance to the defence when he plays (unless with Higgins who is also left footed of course).

I would use the Dowie/Keddie partnership as they wont be so inclined to dive in as they dont have the pace to recover.

I've always rated Woods as the future CB.

I remember seeign him line up with Bamba at Tynecastle in the cup. He was immense. Ideally you put him with a big guy. But i cant see anyone getting by him through the middle

Its tuff being a Par but we love it!

I thought all four centre backs playing as the back four against Hearts in the second half did really well. I think I would opt for Dowie and Keddie in the middle.

Woods was fantastic at CB but being the only player to consistently play RB will mean he will be first choice there.

Keddie and Dowie seem to be the managers first choice but I am more concerned about who will start against falkirk and morton. For these games I would expect mcgregor alonside dowie.

McGregor commits himself to quickly/easily. Has the potential to be a really good player though. Just needs to cut out the diving in too easily.

keddie and dowie will be the no1 partnership.

for the 1st 2 league game, am not sure if higgins or mcgregor will get the start. would prob go with higgins for the left foot balance.

one thing we gonna have to work on though is who ever is in centre defence is gonna have a lot of the ball and needs players ahead of them to move to pass the ball too especially against teams that are gonna come to eep and just sit in and defend against us.

Have to say that I like the reassurance given by the Mobility of the McGregor. Dowie and Keddie are slower than the others. I think Dowie is also considerably better on the Right side of CB, so I would go with either McGregor-Higgins or Dowie-Higgins for the first two games. I'm also interested to see if Thomson and Willis keep their places in the squad for Arbroath and Falkirk

Higgins is transfer listed for a reason. I would expect the back four to be Woods, Dowie, McGregor and McCann for the first two games.
