Who would want to be a N. Korean footballer?

I understand they had to stand in public for six hours recently and listen to a ferocious rant about their unacceptable performance at the WC, how they had let their country down and above all had been a massive disappointment to their glorious leader, Kim.

As for the coach, he's apparently been sent to work as a labourer on a building site for an unspecified period. 20 years anyone?

I dont believe most of the stuff i hear about the DPR of Korea. I think most of it is made up (im not suggesting you made it up) and its always very hard to prove these stories.

Before the World Cup people were saying they were only going to show games where they won and not show the crowd etc. All the games were shown live. They could not agree a figure to show the games so they stole the feed from the Korea Republic. Although after saying that perhaps that was made up too :-)

They certainly performed above OUR expectations, Jeffrey, but perhaps not up to those of their state leader.

I read about this on RAI Televideo, the Italian version of BBC Ceefax, IKTS. I wouldn't imagine they just made it up but you never know. I wouldn't think there are too many Western journalists in N. Korea, maybe a few Chinese ones?

Does sound like the kind of OTT reaction we've come to expect from them though.......................

To think how fantastically well they played against Brazil too. No wonder the coach looked unhappy after the game. He probably realised that his goose was cooked no matter what happened v Portugal and Ivory Coast.

What is it with communist states and draconian punishments? Perhaps they don't have salt mines in N. Korea so a building site has to make do?
